Ama Dablam via Southwest Ridge — November 2024 Summit Report

Eighteen days on the mountain widely called the most beautiful in the world, and the summit confirms every claim. The SW Ridge from base camp delivers sustained technical climbing: the Yellow Tower's exposed rock, the Camp 2 mushroom ridge, and Camp 3 on its impossible perch below the Dablam. The hanging glacier is crossed fast on summit morning. At 6,812m with Lhotse filling the north and the Khumbu Valley 4,000m below, Ama Dablam shows exactly why people dedicate entire climbing careers to a single ascent.

Difficulty Assessment

Ama Dablam's SW Ridge is sustained technical mixed climbing. Camp 3 is perched on a tiny ledge platform — sleeping arrangements are part of the adventure and the hazard. The Dablam (hanging glacier) above Camp 3 requires speed. A proven climbing CV is genuinely required, not recommended.
