Overview¶
The Whymper Route is the standard ascent of Chimborazo (6,263m), Ecuador's highest volcano and the point farthest from Earth's center. A 2-day plan begins at the lower Carrel Hut (4,800m) and moves to the Whymper Hut (5,000m) on day one for acclimatization. The midnight summit push on day two navigates crevassed glaciers and a steep final headwall to reach the Whymper Summit. A certified high-altitude guide is mandatory by Ecuadorian National Park regulation.
Day 1: Carrel Hut to Whymper Hut Acclimatization¶
