Ulugh Muztagh (7723m)

Ulugh Muztagh stands at 7,723 metres on the remote Kunlun frontier of the Tibetan Plateau in western China, far from the great chains of the Himalaya and Karakoram. Its exact height was uncertain for much of the twentieth century, and its position deep in one of Asia's least-accessible high deserts long left it shrouded in geographic confusion. It is a fold mountain of the plateau's interior ranges. The site assigns it grade 5, its most severe tier, in keeping with an ascent complicated as much by sheer remoteness as by technical difficulty. Seldom approached, it endures as one of the more obscure of the world's very high summits.
