Gasherbrum II is the thirteenth-highest mountain in the world, reaching 8,035 metres in the heart of the Karakoram on the border between Pakistan and China. Second in height within the Gasherbrum group, it is widely regarded as one of the more accessible eight-thousanders and often serves as a climber's first venture above 8,000 metres. The site assigns it grade 4, a technical rather than extreme rating, reflecting slopes that, though glaciated and high, present fewer objective hazards than its neighbours. It remains a Karakoram fold peak, and its relative approachability has made it comparatively popular among the region's high summits.
