Dhaulagiri II is the highest of the satellite peaks surrounding Dhaulagiri I in north-central Nepal, reaching 7,751 metres along the rugged Dhaulagiri Himal. Though overshadowed by its 8,000-metre parent, it is a formidable mountain on its own terms, guarded by steep ridges and a maze of glaciers. First climbed in 1971, it is a Himalayan fold peak lifted by the India–Asia collision. The site classifies it grade 5, its most severe tier, reflecting sustained difficulty at altitude. Its ascents are infrequent, and it is seldom sought except by climbers drawn to explore the wider Dhaulagiri group of summits.
