Huayna Potosi via Normal Route — July 2022 Summit Report

La Paz to a 6,000m summit in two days. Huayna Potosi's reputation as the world's most accessible 6,000er is earned — 25 km from La Paz, guide infrastructure excellent, altitude advantage for acclimatized visitors. The glacier approach by headlamp at 1 AM on hard-packed Bolivian winter snow, Lake Titicaca emerging to the northwest at dawn, and the steep final section testing the previous day's ice crampon practice. A genuine 6,000m peak within almost any budget.

Difficulty Assessment

Often called the 'easiest 6,000m peak in the world', Huayna Potosi's Normal Route is technically moderate. The altitude still demands respect — 6,088m from La Paz in under two days is aggressive. Ice climbing practice at base camp is standard. Final 50m is the steepest section.
