This 3-day itinerary ascends from Saint-Gervais through the Tramway du Mont Blanc and the notorious Gouter Couloir to overnight at the Gouter Hut at 3,817m. Summit day crosses the Bosses Ridge at dawn for the iconic view across the Alps, followed by a full descent back to the valley. A reservation at the Gouter Hut is mandatory and must be booked months in advance.
Day 1: Saint-Gervais to Gouter Hut¶
Take the Tramway du Mont Blanc to Nid d'Aigle, then climb the Gouter Couloir — a rockfall-prone gully requiring a helmet and careful timing. The modern Gouter Hut offers meals and bunks above the clouds with sweeping views toward the summit.
Day 2: Gouter Hut to Mont Blanc Summit and Return¶
