The Zagros Mountains stretch 1,500km from Turkey through Iraq and Iran to the Strait of Hormuz, reaching 4,548m at Dena. One of the Middle East's most significant geological features, the fold mountains were formed by the Arabian plate's collision with Eurasia. They contain the headwaters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
