The Dolomites of northeastern Italy are a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for their dramatic vertical limestone towers. The highest summit is Marmolada (3,343m). Formed from ancient tropical coral reefs uplifted and carved by glaciation, the Dolomites define via ferrata climbing and sport mountaineering.
