Mt. Takao via Trail 1 (Omotesando) — November 2022 Summit Report

November on Mt. Takao is a study in Japanese autumn beauty. Trail 1 transforms into a corridor of blazing red and gold maples, drawing thousands of visitors each weekend. We climbed on a Saturday and managed the crowds by starting at 7 AM. The reward was a crystal-clear summit view of Mt. Fuji — capped with the first snows of the season — from Japan's most visited mountain. The Yakuoin Temple complex halfway up adds cultural depth to what is otherwise a straightforward day hike.

Difficulty Assessment

Trail 1 (Omotesando) is a well-paved, fully maintained path with regular rest stops and a cable car option for those who want it. Crowd management is the main challenge during autumn foliage weekends.
