The Pennine Alps form the main crest of the Swiss-Italian border, containing the highest concentration of 4,000m peaks outside the Mont Blanc massif. The Monte Rosa group, Dent d'Hérens, and Weisshorn define classic high alpine routes. Zermatt's Matterhorn (4,478m) is the range's most iconic summit.
