Gasherbrum IV is a 7,925-metre peak of the Karakoram in Pakistan, celebrated among climbers for the sheer, luminous west face that lends the mountain its nickname, the “Shining Wall.” Though it falls below 8,000 metres, its steep granite and ice make it a far harder technical objective than several taller neighbours, and its climbing routes rank among the landmarks of Himalayan mountaineering. It belongs to the Gasherbrum group and shares the fold geology of the range. The site assigns it grade 5, its most demanding rating. The mountain is rarely climbed, prized more for the quality and difficulty of its lines than for altitude alone.
