ดูภูเขา →Seoraksan via Osaek to Daecheongbong — October 2023 Summit Report¶
Mid-October on Seoraksan is the closest South Korea comes to mountain perfection. The Osaek trail from the south side is unrelentingly steep — 1,400m of ascent in under 8 km — but the autumn colour show made every burning step worthwhile. Above the tree line, the granite peaks of Seoraksan rise in jagged splendour. The Daecheongbong summit was crowded but the 360-degree panorama — the East Sea glittering to the east, peak-after-peak of coloured ridgelines to the west — is one of the finest views in Korea. Knees complained on the descent.
Trip Overview¶
Mountain: Seoraksan (1708m) Date: October 14, 2023 Duration: 1 days Party Size: 2 Outcome: Summit
Conditions¶
Weather: Brilliant autumn colors, 6°C at summit, gusty wind at 30 km/h. Visibility over 40 km — East Sea clearly visible from the summit. Snow: No snow. Dry granite underfoot above the tree line. Temperature: 6°C to 18°C (summit to trailhead) Wind: Gusty 25–35 km/h on the exposed summit ridge
Difficulty Assessment¶
The Osaek route is the shortest to Daecheongbong but also the steepest — a relentless staircase of rock and wooden steps with minimal flat relief. The sustained ascent puts significant stress on knees on descent. Weekday visits are strongly recommended to avoid multi-hour bottlenecks.
