ดูภูเขา →Jirisan via Jungsan-ri to Cheonwangbong — May 2023 Summit Report¶
Jirisan in early May offers one of Korea's finest two-day mountain experiences. We hiked in from Jungsan-ri and spent the night at Jangteomok shelter — a cosy but spartan affair. The 4:30 AM ridge walk to Cheonwangbong in headlamp darkness was worth every stumble: we reached South Korea's mainland highest point just as the sun crested the eastern horizon, flooding the royal azalea fields with golden light. The descent revealed layer upon layer of forested ridges fading into the haze toward the south coast. Korea at its mountain best.
Trip Overview¶
Mountain: Jirisan (1915m) Date: May 06, 2023 Duration: 2 days Party Size: 2 Outcome: Summit
Conditions¶
Weather: Warm and humid at lower elevations (22°C), cool and breezy at summit (10°C). Clear skies both days — perfect visibility over the southern coastal plain. Snow: No snow. Royal azaleas blooming above 1,500m. Temperature: 10°C to 22°C Wind: Light 10–15 km/h on the summit ridge
Difficulty Assessment¶
The Jungsan-ri approach is long rather than steep. The mandatory shelter reservation system requires advance planning. The pre-dawn ridge walk to Cheonwangbong in the dark demands a reliable headlamp and familiarity with trail markers.
