The Caucasus stretches 1,200km between the Black and Caspian seas, dividing Europe and Asia. It contains Elbrus (5,642m), Europe's highest peak, and dozens of peaks above 4,000m in a geologically active zone. The Greater Caucasus offers serious alpinism on par with the Western Alps.
