Topographic contour map of Mount Kinabalu (4095m)

At 4,095m, Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Borneo and Southeast Asia outside of the Himalayas. The standard 2-day itinerary ascends from Timpohon Gate (1,866m) through six distinct vegetation zones — from lowland rainforest to alpine meadow and bare granite slabs — to overnight at Laban Rata Resthouse at 3,272m. A 2 AM summit push crosses the spectacular granite plateau to Low's Peak at 4,095m for a dawn panorama above the cloud sea.
