Topographic contour map of Longs Peak (4346m)

The Keyhole Route is the standard and most popular non-technical path to Longs Peak (4,346m), the highest summit in Rocky Mountain National Park and the northernmost fourteener in Colorado. The 24km round trip gains over 1,600m and traverses exposed boulder fields, ledge traverses, and the famous Homestretch slab to the flat summit. An extremely early start (2–3 AM) is mandatory to avoid deadly afternoon thunderstorms. No permit or fee is required to hike, but the trailhead parking fills by 3 AM in peak season.
