Torres del Paine W Trek — February 2023 Report

Five days of Patagonia's most spectacular and unpredictable weather. The W Trek delivers everything promised: Grey Glacier and floating icebergs, the hanging towers of the French Valley, and the Torres sunrise that rewards a 2 AM start. The real protagonist is wind — 80 km/h gusts on Day 3 forced rerouting. The refugio system allows lighter packing, but February bookings require planning months ahead. No regrets.

Difficulty Assessment

The W Trek itself is moderate in technical terms, but Patagonian wind makes every section feel harder. Refugio bookings must be secured 6+ months ahead for February. The French Valley detour adds significant elevation-gain/" class="glossary-link" title="Elevation Gain">elevation gain.
