Japanese Alps

The Japanese Alps are three parallel ranges traversing Honshu's spine: the Hida (North), Kiso (Central), and Akaishi (South), reaching 3,190m at Kita-dake. Steep and heavily glaciated in winter, the ranges support Japan's mountaineering culture. The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route crosses the Northern Alps with dramatic scenery.
