The Carpathians arc 1,500km through Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, and Romania, with Gerlachovsky stit (2,655m) as the highest point. The High Tatras contain the most alpine terrain, while the Fagaras in Romania hold the Carpathian crest at its most dramatic. Rich in folklore and wildlife.
