Terrain Overview
View Mountain →The Subashiri Trail is the second-most popular route on Mount Fuji and a superb alternative to the crowded Yoshida Trail for fit climbers capable of a single-day ascent. Starting from Subashiri 5th Station (2,000m) on the eastern flank, the route climbs through unique old-growth forest that reaches higher than any other Fuji trail before emerging onto the open volcanic cone for the upper section. The ascent joins the Yoshida Trail at the 8th Station; the descent follows the dedicated Subashiri descent trail — a separate sand-scree 'osunabashiri' — all the way back to the 5th Station for one of Fuji's finest descents. A trail conservation fee is charged at the 5th Station gate.

Day 1: Subashiri 5th Station to Summit and Subashiri Descent¶
Depart Subashiri 5th Station in the early morning through the old-growth forest zone unique to this trail. Above the tree line, the route zigzags on loose volcanic rock to join the Yoshida Trail at the 8th Station. Continue to the 3,776m summit crater rim. The descent follows the osunabashiri — deep scree channels that allow a running, sliding descent unique to this route — back to Subashiri 5th Station.
