Annapurna Base Camp Trek — April 2022 Summit Report

The Annapurna Sanctuary is one of the world's great natural amphitheatres, and arriving at Base Camp (4,130m) surrounded by the semicircle of Annapurna, Machapuchare, and Gangapurna is a moment of pure awe. We trekked in via Ghorepani for the Poon Hill rhododendron season, then dropped through Chhomrong into the Sanctuary gorge. The approach above Deurali was dusted with fresh April snow. ABC itself was cold, wild, and humbling — the Annapurna massif rising 3,000m above our tent. A trekking journey that rewards patience.

Difficulty Assessment

The sustained day-after-day commitment of 10 days of trekking, the altitude at ABC, and the narrow gorge approach through avalanche terrain above Hinku Cave are the main challenges. Teahouse logistics and TIMS permits require advance planning.
