Virunga Mountains
The Virunga Mountains are a chain of eight volcanoes straddling the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo, with Karisimbi (4,507m) the highest. Three volcanoes remain active including Nyiragongo. The range is critical habitat for mountain gorillas and is the focus of intensive conservation efforts.
